Adjectives Attached to ‘Republic’:

✅ Defendable: India maintains strategic autonomy.

  2. Socialist:
Introduced by the 42nd Amendment (1976), it reflects democratic socialism and a mixed economy.
✅ Defendable: Welfare schemes like MNREGA, Food Security Act.
⚠️ Challenge: Post-1991 liberalization weakened public sector and increased inequality.

  3. Secular:
Also added in 1976, Indian secularism ensures equal respect and support to all religions.
✅ Defendable: Constitutional rights (Articles 25–28) protect religious freedom.
⚠️ Challenge: Rise in communal polarization, hate speech, and misuse of religion in politics.

  4. Democratic:
Power ultimately lies with the people through elections, representation, and rule of law.
✅ Defendable: Regular elections, active civil society, and independent judiciary.
⚠️ Challenge: Electoral malpractice, vote-bank politics, and criminalization of politics.

Conclusion:

The Preamble reflects the core ideals of the Constitution, which remain valid and aspirational. However, ensuring these values in practice requires constant vigilance, strong institutions, and active citizen participation to preserve the spirit of the Republic.
