Originated in Kannada-speaking Deccan ; referred to as Ballaharas by Arab travelers. Capital : Manyakheta (modern Malkhed , Karnataka). Recognized by Sanskrit and Arab sources as a major Indian power. Al-Masudi praised them as “Malik al-Muluk” (King of Kings) of al-Hind .
